HERE IS THE GOSPEL
This message can be summarized by Four Things God wants you to Know.
- That you need to be saved
- That you cannot save yourself
- God has provided for your salvation
- The LORD JESUS is able to save and keep you
There are lots of Bible verses that explain this message
- You need to be saved
In the epistle to the Romans, the Apostle Paul concludes his first 3 chapters with the statement that:
“All have sinned and come short of the glory of God” (Romans 3v23).
Not one of us can keep all 10 commandments in deed, in word and in thought, so this way of pleasing God is not available to us.
The prophet Isaiah likens us to sheep:
“All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned everyone to his own way” (Isaiah 53v6).
Sin has its consequences for God will bring us into judgement one day:
“it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgement” (Hebrews 9v27)
Since the statistics show that 10 out of 10 people die, we ought to be concerned about our soul’s eternal destiny:
“and whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire” (Revelation 20v15)
Is your name in this book? - You cannot save yourself
The Apostle Paul explains to the Ephesians that:
“By grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast” (Ephesians 2v8,9).
It’s no good trying your best to keep the law of God:
“a man is not justified by the works of the law” (Galatians 2v16)
There is only one way to be saved. Jesus said:
“I am the way, the truth and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me” (John 14v6) - God has provided for your salvation
The Apostle John explains the love of God to us in the famous verse:
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him, shall not perish but have everlasting life” (John 3v16).
God can forgive us because He punished His own Son for our sins:
“Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures” (1 Corinthians 15v3)
“the LORD hath laid on Him the inquity of us all” (Isaiah 53v6)
The Apostle Peter tells us:
“Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God” (1 Peter 3v18) - The Lord Jesus is able to save and keep you
Jesus is able to save you because God raised Him from the dead:
“who was delivered for our offences and was raised again for our justification” (Romans 4v25)
The writer to the Hebrews goes further when he says:
“He is able to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by Him, seeing He ever liveth to make intercession for them” (Hebrews 7v25).
The Apostle Paul who was religious before he became a Christian speaks of the reason why Jesus came into our world:
“Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am chief” (1 Timothy 1v15)
Religion cannot save you, only Christ can.
You may ask the question, how then can I be saved? God gives us two conditions to receive His free salvation:
- Repentance towards God
“God..now commandeth all men everywhere to repent” (Acts 17v30)
“except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish” (Luke 13v3,5)
“repent ye therefore and be converted that your sins may be blotted out” (Acts 3v19) - Faith in the Lord Jesus Christ
“Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved” (Acts 16v31)
“the same Lord is rich unto all that call upon Him, for whosever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved” (Romans 10v12,13)
Repentance involves 3 things (1) a complete change of mind about sin, (2) a true sorrow for your past sins and (3) a genuine desire for a complete change of life. Faith in Christ involves depending upon Him forever. This includes His person and His work on the cross for you. If you truly repent and trust Christ as your saviour, you will be saved and will have done all that God asks of you, so that you can be sure that you have eternal life.
“He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life” (John 3v36)
