John 3v16

John 3v16

“For God so loved the world, that He gave His Only Begotten Son; that whosoever believes in Him, should not perish but have everlasting life”. (John 3v16).

Stan Ford the English evangelist analysed this text in the following way:

The world’s greatest fact:” God so loved the world”.

God’s greatest act:” He gave His Only Begotten Son”.

Man’s greatest pact:” Whoever believes in Him, should not perish but have everlasting life”.

John 3 v. 16 In Song.

John 3 v. 16 In Song.

John 3  v. 16 In Song.

In Sunday School I had to memorise John 3 verse 16:

“For God so loved the world, that He gave His Only Begotten Son; that whosoever believes in Him, should not perish but have everlasting life”.

I also had to sing  a paraphrase with the other children:

“Twenty five words in John three sixteen,
No greater text has ever been seen.
Twelve about God and twelve about me.
“Son”, is the centre, of John three sixteen”.

Chorus :

“”That whosoever” surely means me,

Surely means me,

Surely means me,

“That whosoever” surely means me,

Surely means even me!”

We sung it to the same tune as “I am so glad that our Father in Heaven”.

We see two important truths in this verse. On the one hand we see God demonstrating His love to us by giving His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, to die  for us on the Cross at Calvary. On  the other hand, we must believe that this is the case. Those who do not believe will perish.

St Peter’s Day

St Peter’s Day

According to church tradition, today is St. Peter’s Day. The first encounter of Peter with the Lord Jesus Christ is seen in the Gospel of John 1.40 where he is referred to as “Simon Peter”. He is introduced to the  Jesus  – the Messiah – by his brother Andrew. Andrew had the habit of introducing people to the Lord. In John 6.9 he introduced the boy with five barley loaves and two small fishes. He introduces Greeks to Him in John 12.20-22. Both brothers were fishermen, Matthew 4.18.. The Lord called them to follow Him to become “fishers of men”, verse 19 It has been said that Andrew was an angler because he evangelised individuals, while Peter would have a big catch as on the Day of Pentecost when he preached to three thousand people, Acts 2.41.

A Florida Court Sets Atheist Holy Day!

A Florida Court Sets Atheist Holy Day!

A Florida Court Sets Atheist Holy Day!

In  Florida , an atheist created a case against Easter and Passover Holy days.  He hired an attorney to bring a discrimination case against Christians and Jews and observances of their holy days.  The argument was that it was unfair that atheists had no such recognized days. The case was brought before a judge.  After listening to the passionate presentation by the lawyer, the judge banged his gavel declaring, “Case dismissed!”The lawyer immediately stood and objecting to the ruling saying,  “Your honor, How can you possibly dismiss this case?  The Christians have Christmas, Easter and others.  The Jews have Passover, Yom Kippur and Hanukkah, yet my client and all other atheists have no such holidays…”

The judge leaned forward in his chair saying, “But you do. Your client, counselor, is woefully ignorant.” The lawyer said,” Your Honor, we are unaware of any special observance or holiday for atheists.” The judge said, “The calendar says April 1st is April Fool’s Day. Psalm 14:1 states, ‘The fool says in his heart, there is no God.’  Thus, it is the opinion of this court that, if your client says there is no God, then he is a fool. Therefore,  April 1st is his day. Court is adjourned.”
